TYPES OF HEARING AIDS
Hearing aid technology has progressed thanks to breakthroughs that allow for slimmer designs, pristine speech enhancement, and noise reduction software. Through the advancements of hearing aids research and development, it allows us to offer a wide variety of models and software levels.
A common model of hearing aid, like the invisible-in-the-canal (IIC), is placed deep within the ear canal so that they are practically invisible. A completely-in-the-canal (CIC) is slightly larger allowing for a small handle on the faceplate of the hearing aid to allow for easy removal. A different model altogether, the receiver-in-the-canal (RIC), uses a thin wire to connect the piece within the ear to the aid behind the ear. This allows for sound to be heard more naturally. The behind-the-ear (BTE) is a classic design that hooks over the top of the ear and is typically used for more powerful amplification.
HOW DO I CHOOSE?
There are several important factors to consider when investing in a hearing aid. Some hearing aids are better for mild to moderate hearing loss, while others can combat severe hearing loss. Other concerns should also be considered: discreetness of the hearing aid, dexterity of the client, and hearing aid battery life.
Weighing these considerations can seem overwhelming; however, you are not alone in making these decisions. With the help and guidance of Foothills Hearing Centre Ltd. personnel, we help answer your hearing related questions, try hearing aids, and personalise them through fittings.
